Bodywork

By using an integrative array of massage modalities, our therapists use the most appropriate techniques to help relieve tension in the soft tissues of the body. Together, we create a container to guide the body and mind into a more relaxed and capable state of being.

  • Deep tissue massage uses firm pressure and slow strokes to massage deep layers of muscle and fascia. Deep tissue massages are used to break up scar tissue and break down muscle adhesions.

  • Sports massage is specifically tailored to different sports and sporting injuries. It is not a relaxing form of massage and can often be quite strenuous. It works by stretching tight muscles, stimulating inactive muscles and improving the condition of the soft tissue. The aim of sports massage is to reduce the stress and tension that can build up in the soft tissues of the body during exercise. This form of massage is used to: increase endurance, improve performance, reduce the chance of injury, reduce recovery time after an injury. During a sports massage session the client remains clothed in athletic wear, shorts, tank top and/or sports bra.

  • Myofascial release is a massage treatment that attempts to release tension in the fascia due to trauma, posture, or inflammation. Connective tissues called fascia surround the muscles, bones, nerves, and organs of the body. Points of restriction in the fascia can place a great deal of pressure on nerves and muscles causing chronic pain. Myofascial release sessions employ long stretching strokes meant to balance tissue and muscle mechanics and improve joint range of motion in order to relieve pain.

  • Relaxation massage is a smooth, gentle, flowing style that promotes general relaxation, relieves muscular tension, and improves circulation and movement range. Relaxation massages are provided at a depth that does not cause discomfort.

  • Trigger Point Therapy is also known as Neuromuscular Massage. Trigger points are sore, painful spots—also called knots—found in muscles. These knots are sensitive and when pressure is applied, it can produce pain in a different part of your body. A trigger point massage helps work out those knots and reduce the pain associated with them. The objective of trigger point therapy is releasing or softening a muscle knot to reduce (or eliminate) the knot pain and associated pain. This release happens by applying various levels of pressure to muscle knots, and then stretching the affected areas through a complete range of motion.

  • A prenatal massage is a full body massage with a few modifications with body positioning that can ensure the safety and comfort for both mother and baby.

Our Team

Michael Shick L.M.T.

Mike is the founder of Resonance. He has been a practicing Licensed Massage Therapist for over 10 years. His practice is centered around Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy and Neuro-Muscular Massage, Relaxation Massage, and Pre-Natal Massage.

Mike’s bodywork is an effective combination of deeper strokes with pinpoint pressure, while addressing myofascial restrictions with longer sustained strokes and stretching. He has a keen awareness of the need to look at an individuals pain from the perspective of their whole being. From a physical standpoint this is specifically addressed by looking into how soft tissue restrictions inhibit flow throughout the body and cause misalignments which can then lead to a myriad of pain responses.

Mike’s massage practice is further enhanced by his passion for yoga. An avid yoga practitioner himself, Mike is also a Certified RYT 200 Yoga Instructor. He enjoys sharing his depth of knowledge and love of yoga with his clients. By encouraging and teaching his clients practices that can be used daily to decrease stress on the soft tissues of the body, Mike aims to provide his clients with the tools they need to make lasting positive changes in their minds and bodies.
